One of the underscored purposes of TenThirtyThree and 3rd Person, Inc. is to begin to expedite that change in Qwesmay. In a culture that can be defined as repressive, it is important to take baby steps toward change. As you know, TenThirtyThree empowers women by providing them income and skills training. Long term goals include a hope of enabling local women to become managers of the manufacturing processes. Other goals of 3rd Person’s Business Development arm also include enabling women in our community to start other cottage industries and businesses.
Another recent development for 3rd Person has been a partnership with the Jordanian Football Association to start the first team for girls in Qwesmay. Volunteers from 3rd Person are assisting to make this team a reality. Their are still many hurdles; concerned families, boys jeering and lack of skills and practice time. Yet, the girls and our partners are encouraged by what this step means for women and young women in Qwesmay.
It is no small thing to take small steps to empower people to transform their communities.
